in the second video clip you get to listen to the song *Viva España' sang by my friend Juanjo from La Gomera. He is at the moment dressed in the folklore outfit of Canarias because he had earlier in the night been singing Canarian music in a hotel.
In this second clip you also can watch the "Spanish Caballero" dancing the 'Rio' line dance with the other linedancers.

A trip in the mountains

Today we have had a trip in the mountains. We just felt we had to get away and have a day doing no business. We have both been working hard and we know that if we don't leave the town we will just go on and on. There's so much to do!
We left about 12 in the noon and came back home about 7 in the night...

To be honest with you our 'cut off' didn't work very well. Our heads have been full of business the whole afternoon, but we feel like we have had a relaxing day!
Many times when we take time off it seams like we somehow meet people in the right time in the right place etc and then we soon are into business again.
This is what happened today, but Oh, how we like it!
I'm sorry I can't tell you right now what we have been into. I will only show you some camera shots that I took during our trip.

This day has anyhow been just amazing and we are both so excited about how everything just seams like it has been planned by a higher force. We didn't have any business plans today!
Before we left I asked Brito where were going and he didn't know.
I said we must think a little bit about what we like to do today and where we like to go to not just drive around in the car like to fools without a destination, but Brito told me to not worry.
He said ;- Let us just drive around and see where the Lord brings us today, and when I didn't have any ideas in my mind I agreed and we just started the trip without a destination.
The only thing we knew was that we have to go to a shop in the end of the day and buy some food.
Anyhow, we just 'happened' to stop at a place where we never have been before and there we met a man that we didn't know before and then we soon were into business again...This man had been thinking of going down to Los Cristianos and look for somebody like us...!

Now we know this was exactly what we had to do today.
Sometimes it's better to not have plans for everything, like it seams.
If we would have planned the day in details we for sure would have missed it out.
Oh, I'm so excited about this day!!! It has been a real adventure!

Datiles Con Bacon

Dates inside bacon, is a typical snack among the Canarians

Brito has surprised me again;
This are my favorites now. I just love them!

You can have them warm or cold.
You can have them for breakfast, as a snack in the afternoon or as a tapas in the night.

I recommend you to try them.

Recipe:

20 dates from Palm tree
a package of bacon (20 slices)

Take out the seeds that are inside the fruits.
Roll a slice of bacon around every date fruit.
Lock the roll with a toothpick. Put them in a gratin dish and bake for
10 minutes in 225 C (425 F).
Enjoy.

(I don't know if you can buy the right dates in every shop, but we have bought ours at the Carolina shop here in Los Cristianos. They sell them there at the bread desk.

It has surprised me lately how well the Canarians work with us.
As you know there's a saying that they normally are moving on very slowly
just thinking 'mañana, mañana...'.
My experience is the opposite!

The ones we work with are always on time, -so far. Even the shops that have delivered mattresses, laundry machines etc. It's only a couple of apartment owners who have messed around with us, but they will not get much help finding tenants next year.
Normally when Brito call somebody about something they start working on the problem directly.
They quickly make decisions and full fill them.
My experience is they are faster than many other nationalities here on Tenerife.
But, it may be said that Brito also have told them 'the rules' directly in the beginning.
They all know they have to be on time. If they, without reason, are more than 10 minutes late they fall out and have to wait til an other day to get a new appointment.

I've lately tried to get in contact about some business with a couple of people from
XXXXXXX (i will not tell you the nationality).
They haven't been answering me even when they know I like to buy something they have for sell.
They haven't answered the calls, not responded to my sms message. Nothing!
People who act like this will never get a big business. A person who can't take responsibility for small things in the beginning will for sure never be able to take care of bigger things later on.

Let's say they have changed their mind or sold the stuff to an other person..?
No problem! But if they are people or a business worth of respect
they would anyhow tell me as it is.
Just disappearing is very childish and I wonder; - isn't it many times
uneducated people who act like this?
I will anyhow not spend any more time on them!
They are not professional enough to be in my interest of doing any business with them.

Brito thinks the same. We decided today to skip them. We must move on to get things done and if we let people like this be like anchors that hold us back we better cut the line.
If you like to co-work with us, and get a piece of the cake, you must get on a higher level!

There was a man some time ago who made an appointment with us 12 o'clock in the noon.
He liked us to help him finding tenants for his apartment.
We went over there on time.
10 minutes after 12 he called, without telling us any excuse or reason, and said he will be late
and promised to be there within 5 minutes.
We waited for 10 more minutes and then we decided to leave to not cause
other people having to wait for us.
The man called us after additional 10 minutes (i.e. all together 30 minutes too late!).
Brito told him we couldn't wait for him any longer.

We decided to move this man down to the last number on our "priority list". He's still there!
We haven't yet been visiting his apartment when we think he probably will mess up our schedules by not being on time if we start co-working with him.
Imagine if he would refuse to bring us the keys the day before and we get them in the last minute...and when we open the door we discover no cleaning has been done...and the guest is on the way in from the airport...Oh Dear what a mess that would be!!!

The people we like to work with must be, in case of possibility, available for us.
They must be willing to work with quality, keep their promises etc.
If they don't they will soon fall out.

Maybe I sound like I think I'm very important?
No, I don't think I'm more important than anybody else. Neither Brito!
The problem is only we can't spend our days waiting for people who never show up.
It would drive us crazy! That's why we have decided to work like this.
And believe me or not; IT WORKS!

Christmas Food

Oh, we have been eating and eating.
To be honest with you I became ill and got fever on Christmas day and then I didn't eat much, but before that I had a lot of everything, every day . .. Just too much!
Sorry if I make you loose your apatite in this post.
I'm just blogging about it to convince myself about how sick this is.

I have plans to get into a diet about the 10th of January. We'll see later if it works or not...
I would like to try out the diet that the English princess went into before she married the prince last summer.
I read somewhere that the diet specialists say it's more or less the answer for
the overweight problems of this earth.

I must loose at least 2 stones to be able to sing and dance in the same time,
i.e. without loosing the breath.
They say some people loose half a stone the first week which sounds very interesting for me.
I would like to see a quick result of my suffering and if I just get into it and start seeing the difference I will for sure make it. That's my thought at the moment...
I've made it before!!!

Oh, I just wish these weekends will get to an end so that I can start.
I'm not a fan of gaining more only because it's the New Year! But I also know the freezer must be emptied of cakes and pastries to make it easier.
This means I must continue eating for a while.

Poor Brito, after the 10th of January there will probably not be much delicacies in the freezer any more, neither in the refrigerator...but he can always sneak into a restaurant and have something yummy if he like...We'll see!

Apple pie that we had with vanilla sauce or ice cream.
I've made two pies so far during Christmas.

A "Kladd kaka" for 8 people.
This is a typical Swedish brownie that we have with whipped cream or ice cream.
It's dark brown and sticky inside.

A nice cake for "fika".
It has got a layer of crispy caramel mass in under the chocolate.
Very delicious!!!!
We have made 2 cakes so far within two weeks, Brito has helped me out.
One cake has got 20 pieces.
Isn't this sick, please tell me!

This world is anyhow not fare. Brito can eat as much as he likes without gaining weight.
His body is always perfect. I grove bigger with every piece I eat! :-(

The White Carpet

He avoids stepping on the carpet...

He,he! Poor Brito!
For Christmas I have bought some new stuff for the bathroom.
Brito thinks the white carpet on the floor wasn't such a good idea.
He says it will very soon get dirty and yesterday, when I passed the bathroom door,
I saw him standing like this while he was brushing the teeth.

I know he's right, but I have plans to just throw it into the laundry machine, when it gets dirty + out on the line for a while.... and then it will look clean again.
For me it's more important how the bathroom looks.
I thought a white carpet would make it look nicer than a colored one...and
the price was anyhow only 10 Euros.
I will throw it away when it gets too dirty.
But then I probably will buy a bigger one, also white, because
this one is too small in my point of view.
But, there's one question...; -How will he stand if I buy a bigger one?

Jealousy

Oh, I'm s-o-o-o.... tired of jealous people at the moment. They just make me tired!
There are people on this island who can sit all day, drinking beer and making fun of Brito and me and our business. I can't understand it!
We have both been working hard the whole autumn and there's no excuse to be jealous.
Nothing comes to you for free! It's sweat and hard work every day!

I believe many people get opportunities during the lifetime and they could make a great success and become very successful themselves, but when many see the work that it demands to get there they regret.
They are in fact too lazy to make it and they don't like to solve all the problems that probably will take place during the path. When they get the opportunity they sit and dream about it, without doing anything, til it has passed and the door is closed.
Because nothing happened the opportunity was passed to somebody else.

Some might think the right way of living on this island is sitting in the sun with a beer wasting the time away talking sh*t, but I don't like to use my time in this earth that way, neither Brito.
We both like business and enjoy working hard and nobody can steel that from us.
At the moment we, every day, face a lot of problems that need to be solved.
We take them one by one til they are solved and there's no word in this world to explain the feeling we have in the night when the day is over and everything is under control. It's just a lovely feeling and we thank God for every new day we can live this exciting life.
Last night we just stated;
"Tougher days bring greater victories in the end. Quiet days don't take us anywhere".

Gingerbread Biscuits

Brito is making a heart for me.

I have started baking for Christmas.
Yesterday I made gingerbread biscuits and the day before I made
cinnamon buns and cream buns.

Brito likes my cream buns and he eats at the moment 3-4 per day.
The gingerbread biscuits also turned out to be very delicious.
The receipt was quite big and we will have to bake for some more
hours before they all are ready.
I guess we will get about 100 biscuits from it.
I eat them with a piece of blue cheese + Swedish glögg and it's very delicious.
Brito is not a fan of glögg and prefer to eat them as a snack.

Christmas Tree

I have bought a big Christmas tree in Sta Cruz, for the balcony.
It looks very nice. Almost like a real one.
Yesterday, late in the night, we started putting it together to be sure we
would not get a big audience.

Painting, Painting and Painting

Maybe somebody has been wondering what I've been up to when I haven't said anything on this blog for a long time.
One reason, why I've been quiet, is that I've been busy painting (with Brito).
The apartment almost looks like brand new now.

We started the project by paining the balcony furniture earlier in the autumn. Then we figured out we must paint all the flowerpots too...
A couple of weeks ago Brito started thinking everything would look better if he would paint the balcony walls, so he started doing that...

When it finally was ready we started thinking we ought to paint the walls in the kitchen too. That was not the easiest thing because we had to change the color a few times before we were satisfied...

Then Brito started looking at the other rooms and he thought the walls looked so dirty and he started paining them as well...

One night when I got home from work and sat in the kitchen I figured out the golden mirror had to change color too, and all the furniture in the kitchen was in a need of a restoration painting and next day we started painting them all in the same color like before....The mirror turned into a color called "piedra" that is light beige-grey.

When this was ready Brito thought the curtains didn't fit any more and I went out on town and bought new ones...

Like this we have been going on the last 3 weeks! I think it will never be ready!
Every time we sit down and look around we get new ideas of things that have to be done.

Yesterday when it was my day off we took a trip to Sta Cruz and I bought a lot of stuff for the house. I have plans to make a video clip later, when the home is ready prepared for Christmas...

The Volcano

One of the latest photo of the volcano.

The most of you have probably at the moment heard about the volcano outside El Hierro.
It started about a month ago and is situated down in the water outside La Restinga where
Clas and I used to go for vacation.
The volcano is more quiet at the moment but it can very soon take of again.
They don't know yet if there will be a new island born but a lot of magma and lava have been spitted out and it has created a "mountain" down in the water that is over 100 meters high.
It's about 300 meters down to the seabed where it's situated.

We have been very busy at Lewinskis terrace lately.
Tuesday night it was 105 guests that visited us during the night.
A sad thing though is that I've caught a cold and yesterday I lost the voice
so that I couldn't sing at all.
Tonight (Thursday) I will sing a couple of songs but the most line dances will be
played as original tracks from the computer.
I've still got a soar throat and a hoarse voice and it's better to take it easy.

Old Houses

This house in the center of Las Galletas has been evacuated but

how much protection will the fence and the nets be if the house comes down?

There are some old houses on Tenerife that better would be made stronger, or
taken down, in case there would be an heavy earthquake.
People are still living in some of them.

I wonder if all the old high complexes here in Los Cristianos will make it if there will be an heavy earthquake. Have they got a construction that is strong enough? If not I think the "Commmunidades" better should start preparing for this...just in case...
Some have started working on it while some keep quiet hoping for the best.

The house in Las Galletas has only got a function as a lamp holder.

Did the people leave in hurry?
The curtain was anyhow left on the outside when the window was closed.

Las Galletas

Yesterday when it was my day off we went down to Las Galletas for lunch.

White bread, mojo sauces and a Canarian white wine.

My favorite fish soap that I always have here.

"Sardinillas frescas con papas arrugadas".

Sorry I forgot to take any photos of the desserts.
Brito had something like a mango fromage and I had a carmel brulee.

We took the opportunity to have a stroll along the beach front.

There was a cute little dog that was barking at itself.
It was too windy for the camera microphon and you can't hear how it's barking, but
it probably thought there is an other dog in the water...?

The Best Carpaccio

This is the best Carpaccio I've ever had.
Except the normal ingredients it has got asparagus and roasted apple slices.
Brito is a very good cook! I just think I get too spoiled at the moment!

This time I made the desert...it's a quick made calorie boom!

Brito Was Assaulted

When Brito woke up Sunday morning (about 8.30) he decided to go over to one of the apartments that we are letting out to change a lamp bulb. A Swedish girl would move in there in the afternoon.

Down at the bar, where we live, he was told that the police were looking for a crazy man who was going around in the town attacking people, but he didn't take much notice about it and continued the walk down to the apartment.

Outside the fuel station he saw a man standing on the street looking at him but he didn't think more about it and continued walking.

The man started following him and on the street outside Hotel Andreas. He was walking on one side of the street and the man on the other.
When Brito a little bit later walked into the street that is between Crisol and Fayser the man passed him.

In the end of the street the man suddenly stopped and started waiting for him.
When Brito came closer to the man the man started talking to him but Brito didn't understand what he said. He probably talked in a north African language because the man looked like he is from this part of Africa.

When Brito then passed the man he suddenly went after him and took a choke grip around his throat so that Brito couldn't breath for a long time.
He was very strong and Brito thought he would get a black out, but after a long while he finally got a grip around the mans leg and started bending it all he could.
This probably caused a lot of pain to the man and he loosed the grep around the throat a little bit and Brito turned around and gave him a smock in the face and then the man run away.

Brito sat down for a couple of minutes to breath and a woman who had been watching it stayed with him and asked if he's okay.
Then he decided to go over to the police station in the next block, that is behind the culture house. When he got back on the street outside the hotel Andreas he saw a man sitting at the street bleeding from the head. The crazy man had also been attacking him.

The police station was closed when it was Sunday morning so he had to call them instead.
After he had been talking to the police he went over to the medical center. He had a lot of pain and a difficulty to breath when the throat started swelling on the inside.
He got antibiotics and he's better now but has still got a lot of pain in the body and in the throat.

The police have probably caught the man, but we haven't heard anything about it.

People with mental illnesses like this should be locked in and not be able to walk around in the town.
They hear voices that tell them what to do and you can never be sure about what they will do next.
If the voice tell them to kill they will kill and they are very strong when they are in this mood and act.
They've got more power than normal and it can even be difficult for a group of many strong men to keep a crazy person like this down while waiting for the police.

Britos' Fruit Desert

Yesterday Brito made an 'almosa' for us including squids, prawns and clams.
It was so delicious!
He also made a quick fruit desert for us.

Different fruits in pieces,
(we had mango, pineapple and kiwi)
Condensed milk or caramel- or chocolate sauce,
(we had condensed milk this time)
Spray cream.

A nice dessert or snack for a hot day like yesterday.

It's goood!!! Brito finally just had to lick the plate to get all out of it.

Fizzy Water In The Egg Mix

Last Monday Brito and me made a lunch together including Canarian
sausage, salat and fried onion rings.
He put some fizzy water into the egg paste, that you dip the onions in before you
turn them in the flour and fry them, and it caused a crispy very delicious crust.
I didn't know this before and thought I must tell everybody about it.
...Or is it only me who didn't know this tick?
Anyhow, I love them crispy!!!

A Lovely Day

Yesterday when it was my day off I went with Brito down to El Medano.
We went to a restaurant that has a terrace down at the ocean.
The weather was just perfect and we had a lovely relaxing day.

Mi disfruting a glass of local vino blanco.

A snack of camarones is perfect a sunny day like this.

Brito jumped into the ocean to have a swim tour.

Somebody had thrown a pan into the water and the fishes seamed very hungry.
I decided to not have a swim at this place.

I asked Brito to pose for some photos...

After a while he turned out to become a tourist attraction!
A tourist (?), on the other side of the bay, also
started taking photos of him.
She had something looking like a paparazzi camera but I think my
photos are looking better than hers...?
Please, tell me if you see him in some tourist brochure or advertising.
They will for sure have to pay!!!

The waves were rollin' all over him like a water massage.

We ordered some 'chopitos'. Oh, I just looove them!!!

Later on we moved over to the main beach and I could have a swim
without thousands of hungry fishes around me.

I tell you, It was a looovely day!!!

They come from three different countries; England, Holland and Australia.
I think it's so lovely when people from different nations come together to dance here on Tenerife.
Other countries that were present at the moment were Scotland, Belgium and Germany.
Line dance connects people!

1 Year Together

Oh, what a night we had yesterday!

It is one year since we started our relationship, Brito and me, and we had
a romantic dinner on the balcony.
He,he! It was probably like a show for the neighbors.
Some of them showed up on their balconies to look what was up,
while we made the table and lighted up a lot of candles all around the balcony + romantic smoke sticks, but after we sat down at the table they all went inside and left us alone which was very nice of them.

Yesterday. when it was my day off, Brito made this nice tapas for us.
It's shrimps with a taste of garlic.
He actually made two tapas but I forgot to take a photo of the other one which is
called Rabas De Calamar (squid rings).
Both were just delicious and we had them with a small glass of champagne.

When I work on the computer and Brito makes food for us I
many times receive small, what the Canarians call, 'pinchos'.
They are like small 'fore tastes' of the stuff he's preparing.

He serves them very cute on a small plate like this.

This is the meal he made yesterday.

Chicken wings soaked in a special Canarian mix of spices, for about two days,
before they are prepared. They are very delicious!

I've got so many favorites and I can't tell which one's the best.

The Sign

It says; 'Remember to speak quiet'.

All the neighbors next to my apartment are speaking Spanish.
Before this was no problem when I was speaking Swedish in my home and
here is only one neighbor who knows that language.
Today I many times don't remember they all understand what I say and
when I talk Spanish with Brito I talk about, let's say, 'everything under
the sun...' and he almost die thinking they get information about our
privet life and business a.s.o.
Oh, poor guy! The other day he put up this sign to remind me.

It's really fun to sing in the nights now.
September is a month when many line dancers come to the island to dance together.
Some of them have, for many years in a row, been here during this time.

Line dance connects people! Last night we had dancers from Britain, Holland, Australia, Germany, and Belgium. Some of them had never met before but they could dance together when the same dances have been taught in the different countries. It's just lovely!

Mojo Verde

Some of the ingredients.

Yehaa! Today I've learned how to make the famous Canarian sauce; Mojo verde.
Brito gave me an lesson. It's quite simple!
His receipt is a secret though, but I wish you all could try it.
It's just delicious!!!

I many times think I've got like a Guachinche in my home because
he knows how to make the typical Canarian dishes that we normally eat when
we go up in the mountains.
Oh, I just hope I will not gain more weight right now...
He likes to make food and I become so spoiled when
he prepare plates and different tapas for us almost every day.
I just love it!!!

Red Toenails

Oh, why haven't I been thinking of this before???
It's a real good idea to get help with the painting of the toenails.

It's very difficult to see what you're doing and Brito took
the magnifier in use. It's like an art of precision.

Don't hesitate to ask you're men or boyfriends to paint your toenails.
The most of them are used to handle paint and brushes and
Brito said he will always help me if I like.

Sundays Off

I'm sorry I have not got any time for blogging at the moment.
Arranging apartments for the Scandinavians takes all my time and
I work about 12 hours or more per day.
Today we decided, Brito and me, that we will have Sundays off.
On Sundays we will not take any calls or arrange anything.
I will sing in Sunday nights like normal but just rest in the day.
I have also cut down on the hours I work the other days.
I will try to keep it around 10 hours or less to not become tired in the future.

I've been very busy since I came back to Tenerife.

It's a lot to take care of when you've been away for a couple of months.

I'm taking some new songs into my repertoire + I'm arranging apartments for some of the winter birds who will stay on Tenerife this coming winter + I'm going through my outfits + preparing and cleaning stuff in my home + sing in the nights + a lot of more...

On The Way To Tenerife

It´s raining in Stockholm.

I´ll get back to Tenerife this week.
The suitcases are packed and I´m at the moment in Stockholm.
I will spend the day tomorrow with my son Daniel, who lives here, and then
on Tuesday I´ll get on the plane.
It will be fun to get back home.
It has been a lot going on this summer, and it has been lovely to see friends and relatives, but
I really look forward to get back home.
I will not start singing directly but spend some days and nights with Brito first.
Now I´ll go to bed. I´ll get up early in the morning to make a last shopping here in one
of my favorite shopping towns...and later on I´ll have a lunch with my son at some nice restaurant.
We haven´t decided where to go but some sushi would be nice...we´ll see...

No Wedding Photos

I´m sorry I can´t show any photos from my sons wedding and
the baptism ceremony of their son. They like to keep it private.
It was anyhow a lovely day and everything went nice.
I sang one song in the church and 2 songs at the
party.
The son was named David Benjamin.
I think he is the most cute baby in the world.

Back In The Village

A last photo of the island.

Late tonight, 10pm, we returned to my mams house in Petalax, which is a
village situated about 40 km (25 miles) south of Vasa.
The wind slowed down and we decided to leave the island to be sure we
will not be stacked there for days.
It has been lovely to be there and I feel more relaxed than ever even when
we have been quite busy doing a lot of stuff during our stay.

It´s now quarter to two in the night and I´m still awake. I have started doing
rehearsal of one of the songs that I will sing at my son Mattias and Pias wedding
ceremony on Saturday.
The song that I try to learn is called "Annu doftar karleken", by Marie Fredriksson.
They have picked the song themselves and I´m glad they took this one
when I like it too. My son has bought a studio made backing track for it which
means it will probably sound something like when I normally sing on Tenerife.

Brito called tonight and we have made some plans about what to do when I return.
Oh, I start longing for Tenerife now even when my time here is so lovely too.
Now I´ll go to bed... Sweet Dreams!

Very Windy

Oh, tonight it´s very windy on the island.

We had to take the terrace that is on the backside of the house in

use, to get the dinner prepared.

What a difference it was! Here the sea almost looked like a mirror.

I started up the barbeque. My dad has a big gasoline grill here on the island but
nobody of us know how to use it. We must do it in the old style.

We had pork with potatoes, salad and a Cream fraishe sauce.

My mam made for desert Mascarpone with strawberries and
a shot of Vana Tallin liqueur from Estonia.

Now we are listening to the radio weather forecast for tomorrow.
They say the wind will only be up to 12 meters per second.
If they are right we probably will leave the island tomorrow night and
return to my mams normal house in Petalax.

The Bird House

It´s Sunday evening on our paradise island.
When we woke up this morning the winds had increased quite a lot.
We understood we would never be able to get to the mainland what ever happens.
We´ve only got the small boat. The bigger one is still up on the shore and it will not be put in the sea this summer. We have to be careful in whatever we do, to be sure we are on the safe side.
The day has so far went well and we are in a good mood.

I decided to start fixing the bird house which had lost the bottom.

There was a perfect piece among the sauna wooden that I did saw yesterday.

After an inspection I figured out how much shorter it must become to fit in.

This saw is lovely. Very easy to handle and it was just like to cut a piece
of cake to get it in the right length.

My dad was a cleaver man. He had used a couple of steal threads to keep the
bottom in place. Because of that it will be very easy to open up the bottom
every year, to clean the bird house inside, and I did not even have to take the
house down to get it fixed. Very nice!

He,he! I´m quite proud. I made it!!!
The bird house is now ready to get new guests next spring.

The Life On Our Paradise Island

The house.

Oh what a day it has been here on Finngrynnan, which is the name of the
island here in Finland, where I at the moment stay with my mam.
It was very hot in the morning til the middle of the day but
in the afternoon we got thunderstorms and heavy rains while we sat in the sauna.
Everything that was outside on the terrace became wet, even when it
was under the roof, and we got a lot of extra work to take care of it.

This is the restroom.
The black thing on the wall is filled with water and you can
wash your hands here after you have payed a visit.
The small blue carpet is handmade. I think it´s so beautiful.

He,he! I´ll show you everything...!
This is the throne.

Because my dad was ill this year the bird house was not fixed.
It has lost the bottom and is empty of birds.
I have a vision to take it down and fix it. Maybe tomorrow...?

My dad has made this bird feeding automate.
Mam fills it with sunflower seeds every autumn and it´s
always empty in the springtime.

This is the smoke oven where my dad used to smoke the fishes.
He made the oven himself.

You put logs on fire inside this little oven and when the hot smoke passes the
oven, where the fishes are hanging, they become prepared.

Today I was sawing some wood for the sauna.

I like all this kind of stuff that you must do on the island.
It´s relaxing work and very different from my normal life on Tenerife.

Today we also had a "fresh up bath" in the sauna.
This is the sauna heater.
We put rain water, which is collected from the house roof during
rains, into the boiler above the stove. By doing this we get warm
water for the bath. We mix it up with cold water, in a big wash bowl, til it gets the
right temperature...and then we poor it over ourselves, by using a bucket, to
wash away shower cream and shampoo. It´s a well working procedure.
The life here on the island is in many cases like it was 100 years back in time...
(Except the fact that I´ve got internet here)...
But, oh how I like it! To be able to live like this for a short time is luxury for me!
The closeness to the nature and the sea is so relaxing.
It´s an experience I wish would be available to everyone.

On The Island

Yesterday I returned to my mams house in Finland.
I have been away for about 10 days and it feels good to be back again.
There are still some stuff that have to be solved after my dads death and directly after I arrived we went to the funeral company and ordered the stone that will be placed at the grave.
Oh, to be honest with you I think it´s quite expensive to die.

Today I´ve been to Vasa with my mam shopping the clothes we will wear at the
wedding on next Saturday.
We were both very satisfied with the dresses and jackets we bought and I
found some extra pieces too.

Many years ago my mam and dad bought an own island in the archipelago outside of Vasa.
There is a little summer house with 2 bedrooms, kitchen and a living room.
To get there you have to cross the sea by boat for about half a mile (about 750m), after you first have traveled with a cable ferry for ten minutes over to an other bigger island called Bergo.
This is where I am right now together with my mam.
Directly when we came back from the town today, we decided to move out here.
We packed all the suitcases and bags in about 45 minutes and left and now we will stay here for a few days, maybe til Monday or Tuesday night.
It´s very different and relaxing to stay here. We have as an example no running water and the toilet is just a small house in the backyard, but we have got electricity and a sauna which is heated by logs. Tomorrow we will have a sauna bath in the afternoon and a special
dinner in the night.
I´ll try to remember to take some photos to show you...

First we had grilled halloumi cheese and salad.

Then fillet steak with a lot of black pepper.

Seaport Hotel in Turku

I checked in at the Seaport hotel in Turku a couple of hours ago.
Tomorrow morning I´ll board the Galaxy cruise ship and head for Stockholm, Sweden.
I´ll be back at my mams house in a couple of weeks.

It´s a lot going on this time while I´m in Finland and
I will not return to Tenerife before in August.

My son Mattias and his girlfriend Pia have started planning their wedding
that will be held Saturday the 30th of July, in Korsnas.
Their newborn son will also be baptized at the same ceremony.

And I will of course be there...

This is the dinner I had tonight, here at the hotel. It was nice.

Tegenaria Atrica

I'm very afraid of spiders. I don't know why but many times it seams like they know about it and like to make me scared. They always leave the people around me in peace while they walk straight up to me.

Last night when I went to bed, here in my moms house in Finland, I almost got a heartattack when this kind of spider suddenly walked up along the wall. I went to the kitchen and got a brush and a dustpan, thought I somehow must get it moved out to the yard, but it moved very quickly and I couldn't catch it.

I really tried to not make any noise, when the other people in the house already had went to bed, but in the end they all woke up and hurried over to my room wandering what's going on.

My sister Ann finally caught the spider and carried it out to the yard. She takes spiders by hand while I'm more or less hysteric just looking at them.

This spider is the biggest one of the house spiders in Finland and it was named 'The spider of Europe' year 2008.

It's size can be up to 10 cm in diameter but the one in my room was about 5-6 cm.

It's not dangerous and it doesn't bite but looks like a monster and many people are afraid of it.

My dad was moved up to heaven Sunday morning 26.06.2011, 9am.
He had been suffering from cancer, which finally was spread
all around inside his body.

Our hearts are heavy with sadness and tears, But our
memories are full of the love and kindness you
gave over the years. Missing you always.

He is very handy in the kitchen and in the home in general.

Buena Vista

The hotel is only a few meters from the ocean.

A group of 50 people booked the Lewinskis terrace last Saturday and I got an extra night off.
I would normally have been singing 2 hours before the Canarian band that
sing there Fridays and Saturdays.
Brito also arranged an extra day off and Friday afternoon we went up to the north of the island.
We stayed in a hotel in Puerto de La Cruz and went the next day for a trip to Buena Vista.
Imagine I've been living on Tenerife almost 7 years and I've never visited
'Punta de Teno' in Buena Vista before, which is the most north-west point of Tenerife.
It's a very beautiful place and I recommend you to pay a visit if you've got time while
you are on Tenerife.

We stayed on the 11th floor and it made me a little bit dizzy when I look down.

Friday night we had a dinner in this Guacinche in La Ursula.
I think I was the only 'extranjero' (foreigner) among all these Canarians.

When you go to 'Punta de Teno' in Buena Vista you have to drive through the small 'eye'.
After you have passed it you have to drive through a horrible tunnel.

We went here for a tapas...
This is one of my favorite restaurants now.

The interior is very special with a small bubbling rivulet inside the restaurant.

The wine, the bread and the mojo sauce were excellent.

I had 'Chopitos' for the first time in my life and I just like them.

'Queso frito' was also very nice.

On the way back to the south we went down to 'Los Carrizales'
which is the neighbor village of Masca.

We visited this house where Brito often stayed,
with his aunt, when he was young.

This is how the normal tunnels are here on Tenerife.
The one on the way to Punta de Teno is horrible. If you are suffering from
claustrophobia you shouldn't go there. It's quite scary.
There's no lights and it's very low and narrow with no protection on the
walls inside and I think it's about 300 yards long (about 270 meters).

When we saw this beach two weeks ago we decided to go here one day for a picnic.

Oh, what a nice day off I had yesterday.
It was 'Dia De Canarias' and we went to El Medano for a picnic.
We went to the nice beach that we saw from the top of a
mountain a couple of weeks ago.

The beach is behind this mountain, Montana Roja, and
we had to walk for a while to get there.

We finally found a beach where we could be for ourselves.

Playa Santiago

Red flag which means "don't go into the ocean'', but many people were swimming.

Playa Santiago has got a very nice beach but last Saturday afternoon, when we payed a visit,
it was very windy.

The beach has got the most of everything, like a swim-wheelchair for invalids,
shower and dress rooms, toilets and there's a complaint point were you can talk
to a person if there are things you don't like or things you think are dangerous etc.

There's a landing platform for helicopter in case of an accident.

Playa Santiago is the last place you pass before you get up to Los Gigantes.
You can see the Los Gigantes cliffs in the background.

We decided to have a tapas at this restaurants at the beach front.

It was very posh and everything tasted just perfect.
The beach has got the blue and white European flag too, which
means it's a very nice beach.

First we had 'Gambas al ajillo'.

Then we had 'Almejas a la marinero'. Lovely!!!

Playa De San Juan

Oh what a day we had yesterday.
First we went by car up to Playa San Juan and had a stroll along
the beach front among cliffs and volcano rockets.
It was just amazing and I took so many photos that I had to make a
slid show to show you them.
Later on we went up to the nice beach in Playa Santiago for a tapas.
I will tell you more about this place in next post.

Today I have been taking photos of one more apartment in Achacay.

Let's say you are four people... you find return tickets with a low budget company for about 200 Euros per person. You stay on Tenerife for 1 month and rent a 2 bedroom apartment for about 800 Euros during the time you stay here...That means you get a one month vacation on Tenerife for about 400 Euros per person!

The Painting Project

We started using the table a couple of days ago and
decided to celebrated it with a fruit and cheese tableau.

Our painting project has expanded a little bit now.
I have been painting 2 old chairs and
Brito started painting all the wooden flower pots +
the rolling boards they are standing on.
We never waxed the table, only went over it with very fine steal wool
and the surface became perfect.

My Day Off

It's my day off today and in the afternoon we had a small
snack on the balcony when Brito got home from work.
Earlier in the day I've been ironing clothes while I was listening to
the new songs that I'm going to take into the repertoire.

The songs are two new line dances that are very popular in England right now.
They are called "Disappearing Bubbles" and " Knee Deep" and the line dancers
here on the island have already learned how to dance them.

We had Camarones (small prawns), which is one of our favorites right now + some fruits.
There's a nice fruit shop in the Lewinski complex. The owners always pick the best fruits for us and I'm learning now what signs to look for when I buy different fruits. No more hard or bad fruits in my home! I will only buy the ones that are extra delicious.

We had avocado, Pineapple, papaya and kiwi + a glass of champagne.

My Balcony Furnitures

Oh, we have had a little special project going on here the last week.
I got a water blister on the thumb after the hard sand work but
the result looks great. We'll still have to paint the table with some wax to
give it a better surface, that is easier to keep clean, but now we wait for a
couple of days to be sure the oil totally has been impregnated.

I've been thinking about this project for months without taking any action but then Brito suddenly went and bought all the oils and stuff that was needed to get it done and now it's soon ready.
I think he's much more active than me. He always get a lot done while I mostly sit and dream about stuff. I have definitely got much more manana mentality than him.

This time we got 'Quest Blanco Fresco'.
You eat it together with jam and it's very delicious.
Brito also put it into the toasted sandwiches before
he put them into the the grill and that's also nice.
I just love this cheese!

I guess the cheese is about 2 kilograms and we have already had about the half of it!

El Medano

We had a lovely day yesterday, but both got burned skin.
We spent the whole day at the beach in El Medano.
The weather was sunny with a soft breeze from the ocean, about +26 degrees.

Brito.

After a while we decided to have a walk along the shore...
It turned out to be about 4-5 kilometers (about 3 miles).

There's a lot of small beaches along the shore.

At the end of the bay we went up on 'Montana Bocinegro', the small
mountain that is behind 'Montana Roja'. (The red mountain)

The nature was red when you got up there.

The view from the top was amazing.

There's a nice beach when you look down on the other side of the mountain.

When we got down from the mountain we walked into the town to
have a lovely fish meal in one of the restaurants at the beach front.
I'm sorry I haven't got any photos from the meal...It was very good.
We had camarones and then sardines with papas arrugadas and mojos.

Abades, (The Ghost Town)

It's many years since I first heard the myth about the area in Abades.
The construction of the buildings started, during the time of Franco, in 1942. It was meant to be a sanatorium area for people who suffered from leprosy but it never got ready.
The area included among other buildings a lot of apartments, a hospital, a crematorium and a church.
My experience is like it could have been a concentration camp, like the ones where the Jews were killed. But that's only my thought! There's no information saying it would have been made to become a concentration camp!

The story is that there was a house of an old woman, in the area, where supernatural things were taking place. The things in her house were moving around like there was a tornado inside the house and some representatives from the catholic church were contacted to bring back the peace into her house.
It's said they went there with a big cross telling the spirits or demons to leave, but when it didn't help the area was evacuated and set under control of the military and nobody could go there for years.
The area is now open for everybody after the government has sold it to an Italian (2002), but they don't give him the permissions he needs to restart the construction work.

It was difficult to get there. The roads are still closed.
There are piles of sand and stones in the middle of the road.
Brito had to ask some locals how we could get close to the church by car.

We had to walk in the end, to get there.
It was very windy and I had trouble keeping my skirt in place when it
tended to go into a parasol all the time.

An American film team is now working in the area.
They are making a movie called 'Clash of the Titans 2'.

The area is down at the ocean of these wind power mills, which you can see
when you drive along the motorway.

To be honest with you we both felt it quite nastily inside the church.
It was like a presence of something and I many times got goosebumps.
I will not go there again!

Tajao

This village has got some real big stone formations.

Oh what an adventure we had yesterday when it was my day off.
We were going for a lunch down to Las Galletas, but when we got to the motorway Brito started talking about a small fisher men village that is called Tajao. It's located about 30 km from Los Cristianos, down at the ocean, when you go north.
We changed our minds and headed for a fish restaurant called 'Manolo II' in Tajao.
Brito had been there a couple of times before.

During the drive we started talking about the 'ghost town' that is also located in the same area, in Abades, and we decided to pay a visit there after the meal.
It's a town that has been closed for about 50 years, protected by the military, after some supernatural spiritual events had been taking place.
It's said that all the stuff in one of the houses one day started moving around and that representatives from the Catholic church were going there with a cross to scream the demons or spirits away, but it didn't help, and then the people were evacuated and the whole area was closed and watched by the army.
If this is true or superstition I don't know.

The area with all the buildings were at the time given to the army but some years ago they opened the area again and the government went back in charge.
Then they sold it to an Italian, but he can't get the permissions he needs to start putting the area in order and because of that it's still exactly like it was.
I will tell you more about our 'ghost town excursion' in the next post.

When you first get into the restaurant you order the meal at the fish counter.
The menu is depending on the daily fish catch and you tell them yourself how you like it made.

I never end being surprised about the amount of guests in all
these 'hide away restaurants' that we visit. They are often
crowded, but it's of course almost only Canarian guests when
the tourists don't know where to go.

Like in many other restaurants we first got bread, mojo sauces and wine.

The first plate was filled with 'Camarones'.

Then we had the fish soup of the day.

We had *lapas' again. Oh these were really lovely!

As the main plate we had grilled Dorada con papas arrugadas.

Yes, I know I should get into a diet! I've never been so fat before!!!
But at the moment I like to go to all these different places, it's an experience!
Later in the night when we got back to Los Cristianos we went out for one more meal.
We had a fillet steak, but I think you could start feeling ill if you watch everything we eat.
It's a lot of gluttony!!!!

After the meal we had a walk down to the sea.

Prada Bag

I bought a new 'summer bag' yesterday.
It's a Prada. I had very difficult to choose between this one and a
Dolce Gabbana, which also was white, but I finally got the Prada.

Las Galletas

Today in the afternoon, after we finished the meeting with the
Canarian man who's apartments I now will act as intermediary for, we
decided to have a trip down to Las Galletas, for a fish meal.

It's not much going on in my life right now and I'm, because of that, going through some kind
of blogging drought. But a couple of nights ago a guest at Lewinskis told me he likes to watch my blog and look what we are eating in the restaurants so I've decided to publish some photos from the dinner we had today in the afternoon.
I also took a video clip while Brito picked over the fish for us and prepared it in the
Canarian way with a sauce of olive oil (the one that is 0,4%) and
white wine vinegar, flavored with hot green pepper.

First we had a stroll in the harbor.
I love this place!

There were a couple of guys fishing out on the pier.

We had the meal out on the terrace, close to the ocean, watching the big waves rolling in.
The weather was just perfect.

First they served us a carafe of white wine, bread and Canarian mojo sauces.

As a starter we had 'Sopa De Pescado' (a fish soup).
It tasted good!!!

'Lapas'. I've never had them before and Brito thought I must try them and ordered some.
They were nice, but you don't eat many of them at one time.
A plate like this is perfect for two persons.

'Vieja Asado' this is the most traditional fish here on Tenerife and I've never had it before.
The meat is tender with a mild taste. I like it and will for sure have it again.

More Apartments

This photo is from one of the apartments.

Today in the afternoon I got 25 more apartments, here in Los Cristianos, to rent out.
The owner is a Canarian, and the apartments look very nice and clean.
I've got a total of about 40 apartments now and I think I will be able to provide everybody, who wants, with accommodation this summer and the coming winter.
The apartments I rent out are 1 or 2 bedrooms with all equipped kitchen and they have all got a TV and a washing machine. Some have got wheel chair access.
The apartments are situated in Achacay, Atlantida, Funchal, Commodoro and Colina Dorada.

There are still some line dancers on the island but the most of them have left for England.
This is how it is every summer. The 'winter birds' return to their summer countries and we will not see them here again before in September - October.

Brito knows a lot of Canarians who have got apartments for rent here in Los Cristianos, and now they want me to help them finding tenants.

I will publish more apartments on my apartment rental site the coming weeks, as soon as I've been visiting them and got photos.

A new thing is that you now can rent some of the apartment for a short time, i.e only for 1-2 weeks, if you want.
The low budget airlines are expanding their amount of flights to Tenerife and with good luck you can find a return ticket for less than 100£ or 100€.
If you do you probably have to arrange your accommodation yourself and I would like to help you with this.

My life here is just normal. I'm eating, sleeping and working.

Nothing special is happening and because of that I don't have much to tell you.

Yes, one thing is new, and that is that I'm now getting more apartments for rental.
I will tell you more in the next post...

One morning around 8 o'clock, I went with Brito for a biking tour to Las Americas.
I was quite sleepy and when we got back I had to return to the bed for some more sleep.
I hardly can't believe I did it!!!

Two of them with 'gravlax' (salmon) which made it more luxury.
