El Dia Del Padre

Brito with his son Jesus.

Last Saturday it was the 'Fathers Day' here in Spain.
We spent the whole afternoon with Jesus and
went up to restaurant Vargas for a meal.

Brito and me.

First we had cheese.

Then this big mushroom.
I will tell you later what it's called...
It was the first time i had it and I think it tasted similar to a pancake.

A tuna fish salad.

And 'Salmorejo', that's rabbit.

After the meal we had a coffee out on the terrace.

Jesus.

The weather was perfect and we decided to
take a trip down to 'El Puertito'.

On the way down we saw this little cute goat close to the road.

And this camel was out walking without the owner.

The beach of El Puertito.

Me in the bar.
Brito and Jesus in the sunglasses.

We chilled out with an ice cream.

Restaurante El Dornajo

The restaurant.

Last night I took some photos during our trip up to La Escalona.
It was very cold up there and I wished I would have brought the gloves.
We could see the snow on the mountains a little bit further up but we didn't go there.
We also met a few cars with snowmen at the front shield but I missed out to get a photo when they always were revealed in the last second and my camera was turned off.

On the way up.
Some roads are in a very good condition while others are like scrub boards.

Brito was driving while Jesus and me were busy taking photos like
two tourists who are on the island for the first time.

We had a few stops just to take some more photos.

These beautiful flowers are blooming now.

We stopped again to take some nice photos of them and Jesus took the
opportunity to throw himself straight into the flower bed.

'Los tres locos' arrived in La Escalona.

The restaurant is actually in Ifonce, a suburb to La Escalona.

First pan con mojo, queso blanco and a bottle of 'El Lomo'.
All the food was nice.

My favorite 'Morcilla'. This one had almond pieces inside.

'Bistek de ternera y Bistek de cerdo'.

Finally 'Quesillo', a typical Canarian dessert.

On the way down to Los Cristianos.

Off Tonight

The sun is shining at moment but it's still very cold and windy here in Los Cristianos.
Because of this I will NOT sing tonight. It will be too cold for the guests to sit on the terrace.
Instead I will go up in the mountains for a dinner with Brito and Jesus.

It's a lot of snow at Teide now. It looks like it's all the way down to Vilafloor (1.100m) , close to where we are going to eat.
We will go to a special restaurant up in a village called La Escalona.

See you tomorrow night! Tomorrow it's gonna be a line dance night.
Have a nice evening all!

My Breakfast

This is the breakfast I had today.
It's normal in Finland, where I come from, that you have sandwiches in the morning.
Here many people think the sandwiches are more like a lunch.

.

Farm Catastrophe

All the crops withered!

Oh, I caused a catastrophe on my internet farm last night.
I had joined a Co-Op farming with my friend Stefan from Finland.
We should sow, grow and harvest 2900 Wheat and Strawberries plants
as quick as possible.

If you are very quick to finish the work you'll get a Golden medal.
If not you get silver or bronze or nothing at all.

Different crops have got a particular time they have to grow before they get the berries, like it is in the real life.
Yesterday I sow about 400 strawberry plants and they had to grow only 4 hours to get ready for the harvest. Somehow I forgot to harvest and all my plants withered.

Oh, what a shock I got when I discovered it today!
I started looking for solutions to get the plants alive again and there is a spray you can buy but it would have cost me 15 Farm cash which is quit a lot.

I also checked out how much it would cost if I went up in my private plane with the spray that makes the crops grow instatly. That was only 5 Farm cash which is not bad, so I plowed the fields again sow new plants, took a tour with the plan and my new plants were instantly ready and I could harvest them. I have got the peace back in my mind.

Bad Weather

Because of heavy rains we had to cancel last night at Lewinskis.
It was only +16 degrees on my balcony and very strong winds too.

My Breakfast

This is the breakfast I'm eating at the moment.
I eat it in the same time I'm working on the computer to save some time.

.

Fiesta De Paella

Yesterday Jesus made a big paella and invited some friends to come and eat.
Brito helped him out and they did everything from buying the ingredients til
preparing the meal + doing the dishes.
Jesus is a very good cook and it was for sure the best paella I've had so far in my life.

My first plate.
All the sea monsters were prepared from fresh, bought in the morning, and
they were in many different types.

This is some kind of sea monster I've never had before but it tasted good.
I will tell you the name later...
Ok, Brito says they are called 'Navajas'.

Jesus(son of Brito), Antonio Jesus (Brito), Lisa and Jesus.

It must have been some kind of lack of fantasy when it comes to
the male names here on Tenerife.
Really many men are called Jesus or Antonio or both.

Lisas brother Kjell and his wife Inger and their daughter Nora.

Me opening a box of chocolate.

Nora is very brave.
The photo was taken a couple of days ago at the Jungle Park here on Tenerife.

The Carnival

The Carnival is starting here in Los Cristianos this coming week but
today they had like a pre-start at the nursery school close to where I live.
We could watch it from the balcony after we had finished the meal.

.

'Family Meal'

Jesus and Brito.

Today we had like a 'family meal' on my balcony.
Britos son Jesus visited us. He is in the same age as my own sons
and I have a real good relationship with him.
He is studying and lives in an apartment here in Los Cristianos and
sometimes he spend time with us.
Brito see him every day when he is using the internet at his office.

This is the meal I made today:

First we had a creamy zucchini soap with small toasted bread filled with cheese.
Then we had Beef Stroganoff with mashed potatoes and salat.
Then Coffee and a shot of Orujo.
I'm sorry I didn't remember to take photos of the plates...
but they said anyhow they like it all.

Almosa

This is only an omelet but it is anyhow a lunch and Brito thought it was nice.

My life is slowly but steadily changing now. It becomes more and more normal.
I get up earlier in the mornings (sometimes between 8 and 9) + get to
bed earlier in the nights (about 1 or 2 o'clock).

Some days I even make the lunch or the dinner for us. I like at the moment to
pot around in the kitchen and I'm just hoping I will not make him too spoiled.
He really enjoys getting the opportunity to try the Scandinavian cuisine, and
I'm just thinking about what I'm gonna serve him next.

Before the breakfast was the same as the lunch for me, and I always had
the dinner in the nights at Lewinskis.
Now I'm having breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper.

He,he! Now you think about my weight! Don't you?
Yes, I've again gained about 2 kilos, but I've started thinking there is a time for eating and an other time for loosing weight and it seams like I am in the period of eating at the moment.

The problem is that I like to use stuff like cream, cheese and Cream Fraishe in my cooking.
I know it's not healthy but what don't you do when you like to impress on somebody?
All this stuff make everything taste much better!
It's like a cooking secret of mine!
It's possible I serve him only vegetables in all kind of forms in the future!
I mean when I get into the 'loosing weight period'.

.

My Aloe Vera

I waited and waited...Thought it would spring out in a full bloom, but no!
Then Brito told me the flower only looks like this. It never gets bigger.
This is the final result of my Aloe Vera plant blooming.

I'm very proud!
My flowers have many times died after about 6 months,
suffering from not getting enough water.
I have so to say improved a little bit in taking care of flowers.

Lunch at Vargas

Me and Brito in the restaurant.

We had the lunch at Vargas yesterday.
Vargas is one of my favorite restaurants here on Tenerife.
Both the food and the service are very good and you can have many
different plates from the typical Canarian cuisine.

I like the Canarian mojo sauces.
I put a little bit on the bread and together with the wine from a local
wine yard it's just delicious.

This fried 'Queso blanco empanadas' was really nice!
I will for sure have it next time again.
It's white cheese coated with egg and breadcrumbs.

'Garbanza'. It was marvelous!

The sweet 'Morcilla' sausage. I have it every time we go here.
Just can't miss it out!

.

A 'Statue' in Puerto De La Cruz

Some of the 'statues' here on Tenerife are really acting like real statues.
They don't move whatever you do and you can't get them to change countenance.

Here I try to look like a statue too, but the result is a shame.
I just look glassy-eyed.

At the moment Brito took the photo I jumped up in his
lap thinking he will for sure smile or loose his 'poker face', but No!
He didn't even move!!!

Then I tried an other trick... I turned around pretending I am going to
kiss him on the mouth, but he just continued being like dead.
I think this man was born a statue!!!
Maybe I should try to tickle him next time?

Linedance Class In Las Americas

There's a line dance class at Hotel Club Atlantis in Las Americas.
They meet ones every week, on Wednesdays 10.30 - 12.30.
Last week the new line dance called 'Calypso Mexico' was taught in the class and
two days ago 'Burlesque' was taught.
The class is open for everybody who like line dancing and the teaching is in English.
The charge is 2€ each and ALL proceeds go to buy food for the stray, abandoned dogs at "Live Arico" and K9 refuges.

Many times when a new line dance is taught in the class we make a practice, during the first break, the next night on the Lewinski terrace.
If it's needed the teachers make a step through.
I made a video clip yesterday when the dancers were practicing the last two new dances.
Please, click on the little arrow to watch it.

Last night was really lovely even when my tooth was aching all night long.
I've got antibiotics and on Monday the dentist will start working with the tooth.
He has to take out the nerve and refill it.
He couldn't do anything right now when there is an inflammation.
I also eat Ibubrofen 600mg for the ache but it doesn't help completely.
It's aching all the time and I'm so tired of it.

Queso De Artesanos De Canarias

A glass of 'Canarian Cosecha wine (Guachinche wine) a la northe' + this cheese on a
Tuc-crackers + seedless grapes. Oh, it can't be better!
It's just delicious!!!

A Canarian friend of us, Pedro, has a goat farm here on the island in San Isidro.
He knows how to make different Canarian cheeses from the milk and yesterday we got one as a gift from him.
Oh, the taste is so lovely!!! This is now my favorite cheese.

It has got a very mild taste of the goat milk in a mix with a taste that is quite the similar as the taste of the Parmesan cheese.
You store the cheese in room temperature and it lasts for months.
They don't sell these 'handicraft cheeses' in the shops, but sometimes you can have them in the Guachinches if you ask. There are a few different types.
The one we got is called; Queso artesano de cabra curado al gofio.

.
I WILL SING TONIGHT, Thursday.

Wednesday, March 02, 2011

Off Tonight!!!

Tonight, Wednesday, I'm not able to sing.
I have got an inflamation in a tooth and my face is very swollen and it aches terribly.
I can barely open the mouth.
I've got an appointment at the dentist this afternoon and hope he can get it fixed so that
I can sing tomorrow.
A few minutes ago I took a photo to show you but it didn't turn out well when it
almost looks like normal. My cheek is much more swollen in real.
