On The Beach

I've won an inflatable from Hiperdino but I tell you it wasn't easy to get up on it.

Blowing like crazy.

Brito took over and 'vips' was it filled.

In the beginning I just slipped off because of the sun oil.

I tell you, It was very difficult!

Every time I glided off.

Then I started wondering if I'm too heavy for it?
Seamed like it started sinking as soon as I got up on it!

But here you see;- You should never give up!
I finally made it.

Back home I found out I've had burned my skin again. *sigh!*

Brito made Canarian coffee to us that we had with Christmas cookies.
Oh, what a day!

San Juan 2012

Oh, we had a very different and lovely night but nobody of us did swim in the ocean when it was a little bit chilly and windy, only about +22 degrees..
There is a tradition that you have to have a dip at 12 o'clock in the night and really many did. Even the old ladies from the villages showed up in bikini strolling down to the beach to full fill the tradition.
The beach was crowded with families having meals and many made up small bonfires to stay warm.
The government had made a big bonfire that you can watch in this first video clip.

Later in the night I took a video clip of some youths while they did an other traditional San Juan ritual.
They made a bonfire on the beach and then they took one piece of their clothes and put it into the fire .
Then they started writing their wishes on a piece of paper that they later on throw into the fire and after that they started jumping over it believing their wishes will come thru.

Now we are on the way to the beach again. We'll leave as soon as I've uploaded this video clip, but this time to have a sunbath. The weather is just perfect here on Tenerife; Blue sky and about + 27 degrees.

Happy Midsummer

I wish you all a happy Midsummer weekend.
For the first time in my life I'm gonna celebrate 'San Juan' in a Canarian way.
It's gonna be big fires down on the playa and food and dips in the ocean in the middle of the night and a lot more...

But to be honest, I'm a little bit afraid of the big fishes and stingrays in the water so I haven't decided if I'm gonna have a swim or not....We'll see...!
I will anyhow wear the bikini in under in case of...

.

Finland Next

Among other things I'm gonna visit the island that my mam has out in the archipelago.

I'm on the way to Finland and will leave Tenerife on Sunday the 1st of July.
I'm gonna be back in the middle or the end of August.

My mum has bought a new boat this summer.
I haven't seen any photos of it but guess it looks something like this?
He,he! My sister was joking saying they must get a 'clodhopper insurance' for the boat when  I'm for sure gonna drive it on all the stones that are hided down in the water. We'll see?!

I look forward seeing the bird nest that I repaired last summer...
 Has it got any guests?

Hopefully we get to fish this summer so that we can start up the
smoke oven and smoke some fishes...? But it will for sure also be a
lot of barbequing like we did last summer.
Oh, I really look forward to get back...

I'll keep you updated as soon as I get an internet connection over there.

They Got A New Colour

Brito has bought a pair of jeans from Steinfields. Later on he stated that the color is not really what he wants...They were too light in his point of view. Practical as he is he then went to Mercadona and bought a box of textile color and started staining them in the bath tube. Believe it or not; the result was just perfect and even! They turned out to be exactly the colour he wanted! When it comes to this man I must say I never stop getting surprised!

Mjöd - Mead in English

Tomorrow I'm gonna make 8 liters more of Mjöd (Finnish sima).

This is the recipe:

8 Liters of good water(1.8 UK gal)
Bring the water to a steady boil and heat it up

1/2 kg white sugar (1.1 UK lbs)

1/2 kg Fair trade cane sugar (1.1 UK lbs)

3 large Lemons,
Wash them first in warm water.
Then use a potato peeler to remove the outer yellow rind of the lemons in strips, placing these in a large glass or plastic (non-metal and heat-proof) container (10 L = 2.2 UK gal ). Peel or trim off the bitter inner white rind of the lemons and discard. Slice the lemons and place in container with the brown and white sugar.
Once the water boils, pour it into the container with the lemons and sugar. Mix it by using a big spoon. Let cool to lukewarm

1/4 teaspoon of fresh yeast (zest)
(Don't put more when it can make the bottles explode later on!!!)
You take a little bit of the lukewarm water into a small cup and dissolve the yeast in it.
Then you poor it into the container with the lukewarm liquid and mix.

It's very important that the water is lukewarm! If it's too hot or too cold the process don't start and you don't get a good drink!

If you like you now can put a bottle off  beer (room temperature) into the container too. Some people do other don't.

Cover and allow to sit at room temperature for 24 hours (or max. up to 48 hours).

Wash the bottles (glass bottles are the best but you can also use coca cola plastic bottles) and strain the liquid into them after you have added 5-6 raisins and 1 tsp. sugar to each bottle. Seal tightly and keep in room temperature for 1-2 day or till the raisins float up to the surface.
Keep refrigerated for 3-7 days.
The best is to wait for about a week, but you can have a taste before if you like.
Serve cool.

Please, don't make the bottles totally filled when this can cause an explosion. Fill them as much as they normally are filled when you by a coca cola in the shop.
Please, remember to open the bottles carefully when they've got a lot of gas inside!
What ever you do don't shake them!!! Good Luck and Enjoy!

4 Nights Off

This week I'll have 4 nights off at La Karina.
It will be on Thursday- Friday- Saturday and Sunday night. (21-24 of June)
These three nights it's gonna be important football matches;
La Karina has been crowded with football watchers in the nights lately and
these 4 nights they all will be there when the winner groups play.
I would not get to sing much anyhow, and for me it's just perfect to get
some nights off, to spend with Brito, when it's the midsummer weekend
"San Juan".

Next week I will sing the nights when it's no Euro Cup football:
Monday Tuesday Friday Saturday.
Welcome.

UEFA EURO 2012 - CUP

The UEFA Euro, European Football Championship, kicks off on Friday the 8th of June and will be going on almost every night til the 1st of July.
I don't know yet how this will affect my show schedule at La Karina but I will inform you as soon as I know.
The matches start 19:45 in the nights and stop about 21:45 and there's probably no idea to sing while it's on when the most of the people who are tourists here in the summer time are watching the games.
I'll talk with the owner of the restaurant and see what he thinks and then I 'll let you know...

I will more or less work like normal.
There are 5 nights when I probably will start singing a little bit later i.e. the nights when England, Spain, Germany and Holland play, but the other nights will probably be normal.

Welcome.

La Karina 17.05.2012

I'm sorry I lately have forgotten to bring the camera to the work at La Karina.
I remembered it last night so here you get a look of what it's like to be there.

The audience has grown from night to night and yesterday it was a good crowd.
I think about 100 guests or more visited us during the night...But, La Karina has room for over 200 guests so you'll for sure get a chair + table  when you like to pop in.
I like it very much to be back here (it's much more tourists here than in Los Cristianos) and I have at the moment promised to sing til the first of July.
Could be I return to Los Cristianos in the autumn? We'll see!
I sing every night at the moment and it works well.
What else can I say...? The food is good, the staff happy and we've got 5 good looking waiters and, yes,
we've got a dance floor too...and we are crowded while many restaurants at the moment are empty  ...
so don't miss us out while you are on Tenerife.
Welcome

An Unidentified Object ?

We spent a day on the beach of La Caleta.

Suddenly a strange object started moving in the water.

I zoomed in on it and got this photo.

 It's a 'fisherman diver'.
He has got a floating basket where he puts all the fishes that he catches while he's diving.
I've never seen anybody doing like this before...Actually picks the fishes by hand!

Like always I burned my skin.
Specially the breasts and the stomach...couldn't almost use a bra!

 We had Camarones 'take away'.

Later on we hade a lunch at the fishermens restaurant there.
This was the first plate. Then I forgot the camera. Sorry!
But I tell you ; It was a nice meal!

Sima - Finish 'mjöd'

I have made 16 liters of  Finnish 'Mjöd' so far during the month of May.
Brito likes it. I can't drink it myself when I am an allergic of Citric fruits.
I don't really know how to explain this drink for you.
It's anyhow a typical Finnish drink that we make of lemons.
It's fresh and sparkling and if you save it in the refrigerator for some weeks it gets
stronger and stronger when it comes to the alcohol intensity.
It can become up to 24% strong!
We drink it especially during the month of May.
The first weeks it's more or less alcohol free.
The Wikings were also drinking 'mjöd' but the typical Swedish mjöd is
made on a base of honey.
It's mostly in Finland that we make the drink including lemon.

Welcome.

Cheese And Stuff

Our table in a tasca in Tacoronte.

We love to go up to the north of the island in our spare time.
Last week we went up there, with my son Daniel, for a Guachinche route.
We did stop at several places to try out some cheese, wine and
mojo sauces + we had a real meal in one place that was located out in the
middle of a field of wine plants.
Oh it was such a lovely day!

El Medano

The view from our grill camp.

Yesterday when it was my day off we went down to El Medano for some fishing and barbaque.
My son is now back here on the island and he spent the day with us.
We didn't get any fishes but Brito caught an other kind of monster that you can watch in the video clip below. It was not so easy to get it off the hook...

The barbaque.

Chicken and folio bags with vegetables.

Pork fillet.

Los Abrigos

Last night we had the dinner in Los Abrigos.

There was a real big stingray (about 1 yard) swimming around in the harbor.
I will not even dip a toe into the water here anymore! Terrible monster!
Can you see it?
Imagine if you would meet a big stingray like this while you are out swimming!
I think I would die!

We had 'vino blanco del pais' like always when we eat fish.
And papas arrugadas with 3 different sauces;
Mojo, Alioli y salsa rosa.

There was a lot of stuff on the plate;
Calamares, Chopitos, Geldes, Chicharros, Almejas, Langostinos, Melliones, and Salmonetes.
Dessert; Coffee and Ice cream.

We had a nice relaxing evening but became so stuffed.
Back in the house we just had to go to bed and sleep.
It's a hard work to eat much.

He made himselt a basket

The blooming tree behind him is a plum tree.

Yesterday when we were in the north of the island we met this man.
He was making a basket for the fertilizer stuff.
It's a nice handcraft work and for me it feels like a shame that he's gonna use the basket in his potatoe land. I would rather use it as a decoration in the home and maybe put a big tree inside it.

In this video clip you can watch him making the basket.
Please, click on the small arrow if you like to watch it.

SAN JUAN DE LA RAMBLA, Las Aguas

Las Aguas.

We spent Easter Saturday in the north of the island and went down to Las Aquas for lunch.
We really like this village. It has got a few nice restaurants where you can have fresh fish from the sea.

Brito at the terrace where we had the meal.

The costline.

The ocean was quite rough.

First we had camarones.
Maybe you think we have got a lack of ideas when it comes to food?
We eat camarones in every place we can have them!
But only in the spring - summer time. They are just lovely!

Then we had Viejas with papas arrugadas and mojo.
Also very nice!

After the meal we had a stroll in the village before we went shopping to the big Commercial center in Puerto De La Cruz.

Brito again. We were looking for a hotel but couldn't find any.
Would like to sleep here over night next time..

Papayas.

Me among platano plants.

Platanos.

Amaryllis.

Aloe Vera.

.

Good Friday

Good Friday we spent on the beach in Tajao eating camarones.
They were actually the best ones we have had. Perfectly salted!
