New Agenda

My day off is changing from Mondays to Fridays which means I'm off tomorrow.
I've lately also been singing on some of the Monday nights even when I haven't mentioned it here on the blog.
I have only had two nights off for 20 days and that was last Friday when I went shopping to Sta Cruz + a Monday night before when I was out with some friends to the Irish Times bar.

Tomorrow I will spend my day off with Brito. He has also been working a lot lately and we both need a rest. What we're gonna do is still a big question mark...we'll see!

╔═════════ ೋღ☃ღೋ☃ೋღ☃ღೋೋღ☃ღೋ☃ ೋღ☃ღೋ═════════╗

I sing at Lewinskis every night except Fridays 8.30 - 11.30.

Saturday nights I sing 8.30 - 10.30,
after that a Canarian band takes over and
sing til 2 o'clock in the night.

╚═════════ ೋღ☃ღೋ☃ ೋღ☃ღೋ ೋღ☃ღೋ☃ೋღ☃ღೋ═════════╝

The 'big' line dance nights are on Sunday, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Then I sing line dance the whole night through and it's a mix of Country and the latest pop hits.

The other nights are a mix of Country and Oldie Goldie line dances and the audience dance whatever dances they like.

Welcome.

Bodega Vargas Again

Sorry I haven't had time to blog much...I will show you some photos from last Friday.
It was the day after 'The three kings' (Tres Reyes) and I went with
Brito for a meal up to Bodega Vargas.
Here some photos...

The restaurant was packed with Canarians.

We decided to sit out on the terrace.
I had to go water when it was my time to drive the car...

The weather was sunny and warm.

Canarian Cheeses.

Mojo sauces.

Salchicha.

Morcilla.

Carne.

Guess if we were stuffed!
After the meal we just had to have a nap in the sun.
A guest in the restuarant had been watching us and he took on his own initiativ my camera that was on the table and took a couple of photos of us. *giggle*

Dangerous Cargo Banner

Jesus with the flag.

My friend Jesus has a big boat.
He must hoist a red flag when he refuel the fuel tank.
It's an international code called Bravo (B) for sea vessels that carry a lot of dangerous cargo, in this case diesel.
The other day I promised to sew a new flag for him and he gave me an instruction about how it must look on a piece of paper.

My Night Off

It's already Tuesday, but it's in the middle of the night.
I will make a quick blog before I go to bed...

This was really a different Monday, but very fun.
Here some photos...

First I had ribs and salad at Players Lounge.
A lovely meal!

Then I went over to Scandibar for a while to see all the friends over there.
Clas was singing there last night.

About 10pm I went with Jukka, Marcus, Jonathan and Pelle (4 Scandinavian guys)
over to The Irish Times bar.
Pelle (with the red guitar) did play a couple of songs with the band.

Me with "two stars" ; Marcus (owner of the Finish restaurant 'Kippis' in Las Americas),
and Jonathan (Finish championship in Mens 200m run, 2010).

The audience at the bar.

Clas also joined us after he had finished the work.

Guachinche El Cordero

Oh, this is almost turning out to be a dining blog!
I eat and eat and there's not much else to tell you about.
I have plans to return into the diet after 'The three kings' holiday.
It's not possible to be on a diet during this time in the year.

Today I have been eating with Brito at a Guachinche again.
This time in a restaurant called 'El Cordero' in Guargacho.
Everything we had was nice.
This restaurant, that is located on the right side of the road when you go from Las Chafiras down to Guarcgacho, is very popular among the Canarians.
There is a couple of trees out at the road that are cut like a sheep and I think it's quite easy to find the place if you keep this in mind.

The entrance to the Guachinche which is the biggest one I've seen so far.
The Guachinches are normally very small, but this one is very big.

The restaurant was crowded.
The floor is only soil. Very special!
And the roof is made of bamboo.

First we got bread and Canarian mojo sauces.

I liked to try a Canarian soup as a starter so we ordered 'Sopa de pollo'.

After that we had 'Chuleton Novillo a la brasa' with 'Papas Arrugadas'.
It was a nice meal and we will for sure be back.

New Year Lunch

Robert, Lisa, Jesus and Brito.

We, Brito and me, were invited to Lisa and Jesus house yesterday in the afternoon.
Lisa is from Sweden and Jesus is from Tenerife.
They live in Los Cristianos with a very nice view over the whole town and the harbor.

Lisa had made a nice lunch for us with a lot of typical Scandinavian food + Canarian tapas.
Oh, it was so lovely!

After the lunch I went with Brito to Olaff to see some of his friends. Later in the night I sang at Lewinskis for two hours and after that I spent the evening with Brito.
We were among other things dancing at the big party at Casa Cultural in Los Cristianos.

Happy New Year

I wish you, all my blog readers, a happy and prosperous new year.

Susanne

.

Lewinski 30.12.2010.

Yesterday I made a video clip of the last line dance night of the year at Lewinskis.
Please, click on the small arrow to watch it.

I will sing tonight as well but only for 2 hours.
When I finish Grupo Frontera (a Canarian band) will take over and sing and it will be a lot of Canarian guests and the party will go on til the morning.

Shopping

I was out shopping yesterday.
I decided to go to Scandibar to see some friends over there but I never got so far.
When I got to 'Calle Suecia' (the commercial street) I started a criss-cross on the street, going from one shop to another, and I found a few pieces to buy for my wardrobe. When I finally came to the end of the street where the Scandibar is it was already 6 o'clock in the evening and I had to hurry back home to dress up for the night.
It's not really a problem. I didn't have an appointment at the Scandibar. If I had I would not have started shopping. Then I would have went straight over there.

Please, click on the small arrow if you like to watch what I bought.

Asadero Central

The restaurant looks like a private home from the outside and
it's only the sign on the top of the roof that tells you it's a restaurant.

Yesterday I had the best chicken ever here on this island. I also like the Adeje chicken that has a taste of garlic, but this one had a very nice smoke taste from the charcoals in the grill which made it very special.

I went with Brito for lunch up to a small village called Valle San Lorenzo.
The restaurant is called 'Asadero Central' and I think you can't find it on your own.
Somebody must go with you the first time and show you where it is.
We were driving on a very small road out from the town, it's not in the center of Valle San Lorenzo, and the restaurant looks from the outside like a private home.
Oh, I like so much to go to these places and I'm so happy Brito prefer to eat in these kind of restaurants and that he ask me to join him.
For me every time is like an adventure and I like it so much.

The country of Valle San Lorenzo.
This is the view at the 'parking lot' of the restaurant.

There's a small copy of the church of La Orotava in the yard.

Inside the restaurant.
The ceiling is decorated in Canarian style with a lot of baskets and stuff.

We started with my favorite cheese, like always.
The taste of goat milk, which is a taste I normally don't like, is very mild.
The cheese is called 'Queso de cabra' and it's made by the local goat farmers.
It's a little bit like with the local wines; the taste and the consistence can vary from
restaurant to restaurant but all the cheeses I've tried so far have been very nice.
You can buy this type of cheese in the shops but it's not really the same when
it's made in a cheese factory. To get the right stuff you must buy it straight from the farmer.

'Pollo Braseado'.
I have never had such a good chicken in a restaurant before.
The taste is just excellent!
As you can see the food is served like in the style of the manors. Everyone take the portion they like to eat from the plates and you don't get a plate on your own where everything already is served like it is in many other restaurants.
It causes a lot of dishes but I like this system when you never receive stuff on your plate that you don't like to eat.

Bodega Vargas

Oh what a day this has been again! I'm so excited! Normaly I'm off Mondays, but I will work tonight... and this day has anyhow been like a day off for me.

Brito picked me up with his car around 2 o'clock in the afternoon and we went up to 'Bodega Vargas', a very nice restaurant up in the mountains, in a village called Vera del Erques.
The meal was just fantastic!

I become more and more spoiled with the Canarian cuisine and to be honest with you I don't really like to have anything else anymore. It's absolutely the best food on the island, but you have to go to the right places to get it.
In the Bodegas, Tascas and Guachinches where we have been eating lately everything is so fresh and nice. I feel like a princess when I get the possibility to enjoy this special food.
It's also very relaxing to get out of the tourism and spend time in the mountain villages.
I would like to get a little 'charlet' (house) up in the mountains in the future where I can go and relax on my day off. We both stated today it's like getting to an other world and it's very good when you like to chill out a little bit.

Oh, my ears are locked at the moment. Many times I become deaf when I get down from the mountains and now it has happened again.
I just hope I will not be too loud with the sound at Lewinskis tonight.

Inside the restaurant. I like this style.
It's Canarian country style.

The view is just amazing.
Today the weather was a little bit foggy but we got to see
the neighbor island La Gomera and the Atlantic Ocean while we sat there.

We started with 'Queso de cabra con guayabu' and 'pan con mojo salsas y aioli'.
This is my favorite Canarian cheese at the moment.

Then we had 'Morcillos'.
This is a Canarian sausage that is very delicious.
The taste is a little bit sweet.
Sorry two pieces are missing on the photo when I forgot the camera.

Then we had 'Conejo Salmorejo' with 'Papas Arrugadas'.
He,he! I had it and liked it and after we had finished Brito told me I had been
eating Canarian rabbit. Conejo = Rabbit.
He knew that I can't eat rabbits when I think they are too cute and because of that he had a secret with the waiter, that they would serve us rabbit and let me think it's chicken.
He,he! The waiter must have been thinking I'm stupid when Brito , in the end of the meal, told me in Spanish that I had been eating rabbit and I asked what the difference is
between a chicken and a rabbit. I didn't understand that 'conejo' is rabbit and thought it
was some special type of chicken because he told me we will have chicken.
I didn't understand it was a trick to get me to try out the rabbit, even when he told me!
I will absolutely have more rabbits now. I like it! But, of course, I will try to not
think about the animal while I eat.
I recommend you to have 'Conejo Salmorejo' while you are on Tenerife.
And the cheese and the sausage too!
Everything we had today was, in my point of view, much better than
you ever get at a dinner in a 5 star hotel!

On the way back to Los Cristianos we had a coffee stop in Los Menores.
The coffee is called 'Cortada Condensada'.
It looks very nice when it's served but you have to use the spoon and
mix it to get the right taste.

Veronicas & Tramps

I will make a quick blog before I go to bed...I will not anyhow fall to sleep directly if I go now...

Last night after I finished work I went over to 'Veronicas' and 'The Tramps' with 3 Norwegian guys.
I took some photos and made a short video clip to show you what it's like.

Veronicas and Tramps are two popular places in Las Americas where the younger tourists go to have a night out. This night was a quiet night but specially in the summertime the area is packed with British youths.
Veronicas is in the night time the most dangerous area where to be, here in the south, and I don't recommend you to go there.
The music is not even like music. It's more like a noise and the atmosphere felt, in my point of view, both cold and unreal.

I must tell you that this kind of entertainment is not really in my style but it was interesting to go there ones and look what it's like.
I've been working in the next house from Veronicas during two winter seasons + one summer, at La Karina, but tonight it was the first time I visited Tramps which is just opposite the road from where I sang before.

Erik, Didrik, Tomm and me.

I had a chicken kebab and it was really nice.
Yes, I know it's too much calories!
Last time I had Kebab was 1994.

4 happy British guys outside The Veronicas.

The Tramps bar.
The light effects in the restaurant made the photo look like it was taken in the daytime.

Please, click on the little arrow if you like to watch the video clip.
It's a short pole dance and some light effects from the Tramps.
